Terms and Conditions

Last updated: [fill in date you publish this]

These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") govern your access to and use of PrivacyStage (the "Software"), a macOS application developed by [your legal name or business entity] ("we", "us", "our"). By downloading, installing, purchasing, or otherwise using the Software, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, don't use the Software.

1. The Software

PrivacyStage creates virtual monitors on macOS, lets you tag specific application windows to a monitor, and shows only those tagged windows when you share that monitor in a video call. The Software runs locally on your Mac; it does not transmit your screen contents to us or any third party.

2. Free Trial

The Software includes a 3-day free trial with full functionality. No payment information is required to start a trial. At the end of the trial period, continued use requires a paid license key as described below.

3. Purchases and Payment

Purchases are processed by Paddle.com Market Ltd ("Paddle"), our authorized reseller and Merchant of Record. Paddle handles payment processing, applicable sales tax/VAT, invoicing, and is the merchant of record for your purchase — your contract for the purchase transaction itself is with Paddle, not directly with us. Paddle's own terms (paddle.com/legal/checkout-buyer-terms) apply to the payment transaction in addition to these Terms.

A PrivacyStage license is a one-time purchase, not a subscription. There are no recurring charges. Pricing is shown at checkout and may change for future purchases; it does not affect a license you've already bought.

4. License Grant and Restrictions

Subject to payment and these Terms, we grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use the Software on one Mac at a time per license key purchased. Your license key is tied to the first device it's activated on; moving it to a new device (e.g. after replacing your Mac) is handled as a support request — contact us at the email below.

You may not:

  • Share, resell, sublicense, or publish your license key
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the Software, except to the extent applicable law expressly permits despite this restriction
  • Use the Software to capture or share windows you don't have the right to share
  • Circumvent or attempt to circumvent the license activation system

5. Refunds

If PrivacyStage doesn't work as described for your setup, contact us at support@privacystage.com within [confirm refund window, e.g. 14 days] of purchase and we'll work with you to fix the issue or issue a refund through Paddle. Refunds are processed by Paddle back to your original payment method.

6. Intellectual Property

The Software, including its code, design, and branding, is owned by us and protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. These Terms grant you a license to use the Software; they don't transfer any ownership rights to you.

7. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Software is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement, to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law. We don't guarantee the Software will be error-free, uninterrupted, or compatible with every macOS configuration or third-party call application.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we won't be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, profits, or business, arising from your use of or inability to use the Software. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Software won't exceed the amount you paid for your license. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that can't be limited under applicable law.

9. Term and Termination

These Terms apply for as long as you use the Software. We may suspend or revoke a license key if we determine, acting reasonably, that it's being used in violation of these Terms (for example, shared across many devices in circumvention of Section 4). You may stop using the Software and uninstall it at any time.

10. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the Software after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.

11. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of [your jurisdiction, e.g. "the State of Delaware, USA" or "England and Wales"], without regard to conflict-of-law principles. This section governs disputes about the Software and these Terms directly with us; disputes about a payment transaction itself are subject to Paddle's terms as the merchant of record.
